Strategic Objectives

1. To promote Research and Development in the Science Park.

2. To promote the exchange of ideas and transfer of knowledge and technology from university to the local community & business sector.

3. To promote, in collaboration with other agents, an entrepreneurial spirit in the university

4. To promote, in collaboration with other agents, the creation of innovative technologybased projects and to facilitate sustainability and competitiveness through their incubation in the Park.

5. To stimulate quality in all management processes and in the provision of services to the public

6. To oversee the quality of the research, development and innovation activities carried out in the Park.

The park will endeavor to achieve these strategic objectives through provision of accommodation to researches and industrial activities that will benefit from the research and incubation processes in areas such as:

• Electronic industries – for turning around prototypes e.g. the intelligent house, bleeps and alarms

• Information and Communication Technologies (e-Technologies)

• Manufacture of science teaching equipment

• Building and Ceramics Industry for pavement laying, house building and electrical insulation

• Solar cell manufacture and panel assembly

• Pharmaceuticals/ Medical/Herbal products and bio-technologies

• Biofuels: Exploitation of the Jatropa tree.

• Fertilizer manufacture/ Soil amendment modifiers

• Oil/Soap/Shampoo manufacture – using plants and fruits eg. Avocado

• Vegetable preservation by drying and packing

• Juice,jelly, jam and wine manufacture using fruits such as pineapple, pawpaw, bananas, guava, mango, avocado and other raw materials which are grown in plenty in the western Kenya region.

• Packaging companies for other manufacturing companies

• Rearing of Kakamega forest insects eg. butterflies, Silk worms, bees and their applications in industry

Quality Policy Statement

The MMUST Science and Technology Park (STP) is committed to playing a leading role in Innovative, Scientific Research and Technology Development. STPIL undertakes to achieve this by harnessing resources of nature available within the region and in the country for sustainable development and by provision of conducive environment for research, incubation and administrative support services.

Quality Policy Objectives

1. To develop/ mobilize scholars to develop two grant proposals/concept notes to attract donor funding for research and development projects at the Science Park annually.

2. To attract two researchers and or innovators into the park biannually.

3. To incubate one innovative research and development project at the Science Park biannually.

4. To generate at least Ksh.500000 revenue annually from research and development projects at the Science Park.

5. To transfer at least one (R&D) technology to the local community in two years.

6. To register or assist in registration of one intellectual property right / patent in two years.

Projected Key areas of investment at the STP

Given its strategic location, the MMUST STP has a big potential of attracting investment in thefollowing key areas: Value addition in Vegetable& Fruit processing; Water bottling;

Pharmaceuticals/ herbal medicines & Cosmetics; Biotechnology & Distilleries; Forestry Products; ICT; Sericulture & Apiculture; Production of Laboratory Equipment & Chemicals; Printing & Publications; Automotives; Food & Feed Production among other ST&I activities.
