Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology signed a contract with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) to issue Smart Cards to all registered students. The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) will disburse all funds to the students through the student Smart Cards. Once a student receives the tuition fees in the Smart Card, he/she shall be required to swipe the card at a Point of Sale (POS) terminal at MMUST and the fees shall be updated against his/her name. In case the student does not swipe the card within one month of receipt of the loan, the loan shall be returned to the Higher Education Loans Board. The Smart Card will eliminate all issues related to disbursement of HELB loans.
The Smart card shall also be used as a library card and can also be swiped while paying for all services at MMUST. MMUST students will no longer be required to queue the KCB to pay their fees. They can load their KCB accounts through MPESA and swipe at MMUST.
All students are asked to ensure that they provide the correct/current phone number so that they can be alerted by Short Message Service (SMS) when the loan is deposited into their account. Kenya Commercial Bank will take photographs of all students who have reported according to the schedule circulated
