The Vice Chancellor of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Prof Fred Otieno on 14th June 2016 hosted researchers from France in his office. The researchers from Institut de Recherche pour le Developpement (IRD), David Williamson, the IRD representative in East Africa, Phytrovirologist Dr .Eugenie Hebrard and Nils Poulicard, a research student paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor.
The visit follows an earlier MoU that the University and the IRD signed on 18th September 2015 aimed at strengthening scientific cooperation between Europe and Africa. David Williamson assured the Vice Chancellor that the IRD would enhance electronic teaching and learning (e-learning) at the University.
“We will strengthen the cooperation in capacity building in science and enhance the research impact in Africa. MMUST should play an important role in this regard,” David Williamson said. He added that IRD would train staff in MMUST by expanding scholarships for development and research.
The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the corporation saying that it would enhance international relationships in terms of research. The researchers noted that the University should make proposals for an academic workshop in October 2016 and requested the University to have a Summer School soon.
In attendance were Prof. Hassan Were, a Professor in Biological Sciences, Dean SAVET, Dr. Vitalis Ogemah and Mr. Joseph Nyamulu, from the DIAL.
