Academic Division is one of the major divisions within the central administration and organization of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). The division is administered through the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Josephine Ngaira, with the assistance of administrative staff headed by the Registrar for Academic Affairs.

The Academic Affairs encompasses a wide array of activities and functions in support of the academic mission of the university. The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs coordinates academic programs, academic instruction, student learning, academic outreach and community partnerships.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs works to ensure academic staff quality and advancement by providing leadership on matters related to academic staff appointment, promotion and the overall working conditions of the academic staff.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs also works to increase student retention, promote student engagement and active learning and ensure that students achieve their educational goals In addition to working with the deans, coordinators and directors in Faculties, Schools and Centres, the office of Academic Affairs’ responsibilities include academic planning, programs, student admission and support services, University Examinations, Academic Linkages and Collaborations, Academic Advising, the Learning Centre, Committee of Deans, Senate Secretariat and University Library.

The Student Affairs office include the Dean of Students office, Student Counselors, Student Clubs and organizations, Wardens, Catering and Accommodation, Games and Sports, clubs and organizations and University Chaplaincy. The Alumni office is responsible for all alumni matters.

The Academic Division comprises of Academic Affairs , Student Affairs , University Library and Alumni Office.


03. DVC Planning Research and Innovation (Acting)

The Division of Planning, Research and Innovation is headed by a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. William Shivoga who is well known in academic cycles as a leading educationist, scholar, researcher and an experienced manager of institutions of higher learning.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor has the overall responsibility to provide leadership and coordinate the activities of the division to ensure that the university meets her mission and vision.

Specifically, the Deputy Vice Chancellor has the following responsibilities concerning research, extension and linkages;

Development of appropriate research policy and programmes in conformity with ethical standards and legally recognized professional bodies.

Promotion and co-ordination of research, scientific publications, innovation, extension, and technology transfer to the industry, business community, and society.

Coordination of workshops and seminars on outreach programmes on technology transfer.

Mobilisation and soliciting of financial support for research and extension programmes through fundraising activities from donor organisations, industry and business community.

Maintenance of collaboration and linkages with both local and international institutions in the areas of research and innovation programmes.

Promotion of knowledge dissemination to meet the needs of the university and the community through publications and exhibitions.

Development of appropriate research policy and programmes in conformity with ethical standards and legally recognized professional bodies.

Promotion and co-ordination of research, scientific publications, innovation, extension, and technology transfer to the industry, business community, and society.



04. Director, Privately Sponsored Students Programme

The Directorate of Privately Spornsored Students Programme Learning Centres and Campuses (PSSP,LC&C) is one of the major directorates within Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). The directorate is headed by Prof. Basil Tito Iro Ong’or and it falls under the Deputy Vice Chancellor Planning, Research and Innovation. The Directorate cuts across the wide spectrum of the university activities including academics, administration, finance and planning. The Directorate coordinates the privately sponsored students’ recruitment, learning , and running of the centres and campuses.

Specifically the Directorate is responsible for:

1. Establishment, development and operationalisation of all Centres and Campuse in conformity with CUE guidelines, the University Acts, the Constitution of Kenya, and MMUST Strategic Plan

2. Academic, financial and administrative leadership at the centres and campuses

3. Marketing of the University Programmes, Products and Services

4. Recruitement and admission of Undergraduate Privately Sponsored Students

5. Identification and recruitement of part-time lecturers for centres and campuses

6. Ensuring lectures and examination are conducted in centres and Campuses

7. Establishing and Maintenance of collaborations and linkages between campuses and centres with both local and international institutions

We believe open access, as such we  encourage scholars to share their research with the rest of the world. Technology is there to complement and not replace the library and in this regard, we still encourage scholarsu to frequently visit our physical library that has thousands of print books and journals and other fantastic user facilities on the 1st floor of the library.
