1The Community Liaisons office in conjuction with students and staff of the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA) carried out a fire disaster sensitization campaign at Ramba Boys High School on Sunday 1st October 2017.

The sensitization campaign was geared towards creating awareness on ways to prevent or mitigate the impact of fire outbreaks in our schools. It is also aimed at enlightening members of the community to be more proactive in reducing and preventing fire disasters.

Speaking during the sensitization exercise on fire safety, Dr. Nabiswa said incessant fire incidents have been a cause of concern. “As a University which houses School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA), we have always placed high premium on preventing fire disaster.”

Dr. Elijah Odhiambo added that preparing grounds against such occurrences will as well give access to handling any fire emergency such as assessment of fire-fighting equipment and infrustructure, fire safety management structure, evaluating and enforcing fire immunity of common areas to schools

On his part the Community Liaison Officer, Mr. Waswa Oscar asked the stakeholders and participants present to step up their efforts and ensure that our schools and other learning institutions are immune from the ravaging menace. He also urged staff and students on the need to maintain a fire disaster free environment and expressed hope that the Disaster Management students would be agents of change in their respective communities.
