UntitledMMUST ladies teams performed exemplary in KUSA Western Conference Championship Games that were held in Kibabii University. The sports edition that was held from 24-25 February 2018, brought together five groups of competitors from MMUST, Kisii University, JOOUST, Kabianga University and the host Kibabii University.
In cross country race, it was all joy as the team emerged the best ahead of Kabianga University and Kisii University who were second and third respectively. Speaking after the race, Eunice Jelimo who emerged the second best attributed the win to their consistent practice. “We have been practicing very hard for this event. It feels good that our practice has been fruitful" said Jelimo.
It was not done for the MMUST ladies team, as elsewhere, the ladies proved their skills in Karate by crushing their opponents to clinch position one. The MMUST Karate champions outsmarted their closest rivals from Kisii University who were very strong challengers. Winnie Nyawira won a gold medal for her exceptional performance in Karate.
In Taekwondo, the ladies also displayed outstanding performances after clinching the second best position out of the five competitors. The Taekwondo team will be travelling to Taita Taveta University for East African Championship playoffs alongside every team that emerged among the best two in every event.
Speaking after the event, KUSA Western Conference Chairman, Mr. Shisoka Akaka who is the senior games and sports tutor in MMUST, urged other institutions to support their teams with necessary facilities to enable them participate effectively in such competitions. Mr. Akaka also commented on the need to promote such talents.“There is talent among us and every institution should promote such individuals with necessary requirements.” said Mr. Akaka.
