As the countdown to the much-anticipated MMUSO 2025 Student Elections begins, the MMUSO Electoral Commission has embarked on an intensive training program for electoral officials. This comprehensive training held from 17th to 18th February 2025 at Kisumu Hotel, aims to equip the officials with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage the election process efficiently, ensuring transparency and fairness. The training has been organized by the Chairperson- MMUSO Electoral Commission, Prof. Kennedy Onkware, and facilitated by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Lurambi Constituency Returning Officer-Mr. Salim Abdallah.

The training was attended by various electoral officials including the Returning Officers, Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, and Clerks. The participants were trained in their roles as electoral officials, voter identification, polling procedures, handling of election statutory materials, managing polling stations, and ensuring the integrity of the voting process.
Speaking during the opening session, one of the Commissioners, Dr. Beatrice Shikuku stressed the importance of integrity and transparency in the upcoming elections. “The MMUSO Student Elections are a cornerstone of our democratic process. We must ensure that every official is well-prepared to manage the election with the utmost fairness,” said Dr. Shikuku, emphasizing the commission’s dedication to fostering a credible electoral system.
“As a Commission, we remain focused on ensuring that the elections will reflect the democratic values of transparency, fairness, and student involvement. The Commission’s efforts in training its officials demonstrate our commitment to conducting an election that the student body will be proud of,” said Dr. Shikuku.

This year’s elections, scheduled for 6th and 7th March 2025, will mark a crucial moment for students as they will vote to elect new leaders who will serve in various student governance positions. As we approach this year’s elections, the Commission must ensure a seamless, free, and fair process that reflects the will of the student body. With training of this caliber, the Commission is poised to deliver a smooth and credible election that depicts the true voice of the students.
