xMasinde Muliro University of Science and Technology through the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies (DPS) and the Centre for Kakamega Tropical Forest Studies (CEKATFOS) will host an international workshop on agroforestry and climate change from 18th to 21st December, 2017. The workshop will focus on Early Career Researchers (ECRs) i.e. doctorate degree holders who graduated within the last 10 years. The workshop theme will be “Role of small holder agroforestry systems in the arid and semi-arid regions in combating climate change”. Alongside MMUST are two other organising partners - University of Southampton (UK) and Vaal University of Technology (RSA). The workshop provides a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise, networking and learning skills of resource mobilisation. During the workshops, ECRs will have the opportunity to present their research work/ideas in the form of short oral presentations and discuss this with established researchers and peers from the UK, South Africa and Kenya. The workshop focuses on building research links for future collaborations particularly for young/mid-career researchers and lecturers who hope to upscale their research feelers across continents. The workshop will address issues related to climate change, food security and sustainable development using cutting edge techniques of remote sensing and agroforestry. The four day workshop, that includes a field excursion, will be held in Kisumu. More information on this workshop can be found at https://workshopkenya.wordpress.com// Interested applicants in Kenya can send their applications to Prof. John Obiri (jobiri@mmust.ac.ke).
