Alstone Sang Kipkirui, an undergraduate student pursuing Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology in the Department of Biological Sciences (School of Natural Sciences-MMUST) on Industrial Attachment at the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), Food Crops Research Centre at Njoro in Nakuru County under the mentorship of the Molecular Genetist Mr. Cyrus Kimani and Mr. Nicholas Kitungulu (MMUST), in June 2021.
“During my attachment at KALRO-Njoro, I successfully learnt techniques in plant disease diagnostics, nucleic acid extraction, polymerase chain reaction in DNA amplification and soil sample analysis. I also got to learn food quality control and value addition” he said. Mr. Kitungulu said “KALRO-Njoro is a good research center with quality laboratories that equip students with the relevant skills that relate to the knowledge gained from our MMUST course content in molecular biology and genetics”.
