Purity Musango, an undergraduate student, pursuing Bachelor of science in Biochemistry in the Department of Biological sciences on industrial attachment at Government Chemist Department (Mombasa) under the mentorship of Dr. Christine Onyango and Dr. Denis Omaiyo in May-July ,2021.

“During my attachment in Government Chemist Department (Mombasa) I successfully learnt Bacteriological analysis on different water samples by most probable number method and pour plate method. Additionally, I gained knowledge on full water chemical analysis and effluent analysis. In food and drugs laboratory, I was able to handle different food samples with different parameters such as cereals, fish, legumes, sugar, Oils and many more. Most of the food parameters I was able to tackle were on moisture content and aflatoxin in cereals, total volatile basic Nitrogen for Fish, acid value and Free fatty acids in oils, brix and pH in beverages and also heavy metals in bleaching powder by wet ashing method. I was also able to extract and analyze DNA samples and extract human samples for toxicological analysis by Gas chromatography -Mass spectrometer,”
