The Directorate of Science & Technology Park and Industrial Linkages (STPIL) was established in 2005 with a mandate to start, develop and manage the University Science and Technology Park (STP) and incubation of innovations emanating from the research activities in the university. Part of its role also includes linking relevant industry to the science park through collaboration with both private and public sectors keen to incubate their business in the STPIL.
- In Kenya, Science and Technology Park has been a new concept. The MMUST STP was the first to be registered with the International Association of Science Parks (IASP).
- MMUST, then known as Western University College of Science and Technology (WUCST) set up its Science and Technology Park (STP) as acknowledged in part 4.3 of the WUCST Master Plan 2004-2015 under the establishment of STPIL directorate.
