MMUST Hosts Inter-religious Council of Kenya-Kakamega Chapter to Discuss Possible Areas of Collaboration

Speaking during the meeting, Prof.  Shibairo took the team through the nitty-gritty of the University as he officially welcomed it to MMUST. He commended the IRCK’s efforts towards the cause, assuring it of the University’s willingness to work together.

Prof. Stephen Odebero, who is the Director, Directorate of Post Graduate Studies and a Professor of Education Planning, in the Department of Educational Planning and Management, noted that IRCK is indeed a rich group. “IRCK is a very rich institution and I am happy to have interacted with it. There is a lot that we can do together in collaboration for it is a key stakeholder to this institution,” he said.

The Inter Faith Chairman, Bishop Olumasai Nicholas, pointed out that the IRCK-Kakamega chapter has been in existence for years now and has been looking forward to collaborating with institutions including MMUST. He assured the Vice Chancellor of IRCK’s commitment towards collaborating and working closely with the University.

“MMUST is one of the biggest strategic industries in Kakamega County and the region, which contributes to the economy of Kakamega town since inception. We believe that this county can go far in terms of industrialization if there is a good linkage and cooperation between the University and the community. As an institution, we are proud of this great University and we will stand with you to see you attain your goals,” said Bishop Olumasai.

Notably, the team proposed to work closely with the University’s chaplaincy in organizing and conducting prayers periodically in the University. They also expressed interest in working hand-in-hand with the University’s counsellors by engaging them in capacity building programmes as well as stakeholder meetings. Upon signing a memorandum of understanding later on, MMUST students in the humanities and social sciences faculties will get internship opportunities at IRCK and in other works that they do.

Commenting on Public-Private Partnerships, Dr. Namusasi Chinungo from Capacity and Training Institute (CTI) gave his opinion on how the University can utilize the available resources of IRCK, such as human resources and facilities. “The faith community has a lot of infrastructure, which institutions such as MMUST can use for purposes of training, research, innovation and incubation. This synergy will create an ecosystem within the County that will favour the vision and objectives of the University,” he stated.
