MMUST on E-Health in Service Delivery for Western kenya

 

Led by Prof. Thomas Schrader, the workshop focused on the training of ICT specialists, clinical officers and health service providers on improving e-health in the Western region through medical informatics and teaching of MMUST physiotherapy students on the Gait Analysis concept. Gait Analysis is the systematic study of human locomotion using eye and the brain augmented through instrumentation for measurement of body movements, body mechanics and the activity of the muscles. Prof. Harald Loose of Bradenburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany, said that with the changing teaching process, there is need to introduce students to more practical aspects of courses. The physiotherapy students and Mrs. Mary Mwangi, a lecturer in the Department of Health Profession and Education (HPE), took part in experiments to test for cognitive abilities, trail making test for visual responsiveness and mini BESTest for balance evaluation.
