MMUST’S OPTOMETRY STAFF AND STUDENTS SHARPEN THEIR SKILLS ON STATE OF ART CONTACT LENS EQUIPMENT COURTESY OF A VISITING EYE CARE EXPERT FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF VALENCIA (SPAIN)

The Optometry team led by the Chairman of the Department Mr. George Sowayi paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo today, 28 October 2021 for an introduction of the visiting expert from Spain Prof. Isabel Sigwes. They further appraised the VC on the details of the collaboration.

Speaking during the courtesy call, the VC expressed his satisfaction with the partnership stating that the initiative will be a boost to the existing pool of expertise in the institution.

The benefits of the partnership include staff and student exchange, research and joint supervision of postgraduate students. The MMUST Optometry team recently conducted free eye screening to the Kakamega Primary pupils. They offered free eye treatment and spectacles to the identified cases while severe cases were referred to the MMUST Eye Clinic for further treatment.

According to Mr. Sowayi, the exercise offered a rich learning experience for the students as they got exposed to more practical aspects of eye treatment.

Other key personalities present during the meeting were Dr. Timothy Chikasirimobi, Ms. Sheila Nang’ena and Mr. Alfred Ragot.
