The team showcased a diversity of expertise in dealing with various eye conditions diagnosed. This is in an effort to provide remedies to the disorders that may lead to blindness. Speaking during the event, one of the Eye Care experts, Dr. Julius Rono stated that eye screening is key to ensuring healthy eye care in younger generations. This is because screening allows exposure of visual impairments that are preventable.

“Allergic Conjunctivitis is the most common eye condition we have examined in the Western region,” revealed visiting eye expert from Spain Prof. Isabel Sigwes. This condition can be caused by dust, cold, scented oils, perfumes or pollen.

The Optometry students have been well exposed in handling different visual impairments they encounter courtesy of the equipment, practical lessons during outreaches and skillful personnel in the department. According to the Departmental Coordinator External Linkages, Ms. Sheila Nang’ena, the Optometry Department has experienced a massive growth in the number of students applying to join MMUST Optometry programme which has several marketable courses.

MMUST prides itself with State of Art equipment in the Optometry Department. Globally, this has placed the University in the lead regarding the teaching and learning of this course.
