MMUST Steps Up Efforts to Recruit and Attract More Students as It Participates in the 27th Nairobi International Education Fair

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has stepped up efforts to recruit and attract more students by taking part in education and career exhibitions. A team from the University, led by the Registrar (Planning, Research and Innovation), Dr. Collins Matemba, participated in the just concluded 27th Nairobi International Education Fair, which was held at Sarit Expo Centre-Westlands from 7th to 9th February, 2025. The 3-day event, themed ‘Skills for Resilient and Inclusive Workforce Development’, brought together educators, students, industry players and policy makers to explore the evolving landscape of education and its crucial role in shaping a globally competitive workforce. It was organized by Express Communications Limited, and featured the 2nd edition of the Building Skills for Global Competitiveness Conference.

“Aside from increasing the visibility of the University, such activities enable us to benchmark with other institutions, helping us improve our services and programs,” stated Dr. Matemba. He called on high school students to choose MMUST, pointing out that it is one of the leading Universities in Kenya, where they are assured of quality in terms of learning and experiences. The Registrar added, “we have infused science and technology into our courses to ensure that students develop skills that are needed in the current job market.”

The Marketing Officer, Mr. James Muriithi, stated that he was impressed with the number of people and organizations that participated in the education fair. “Throughout this exercise, we have been able to talk to many students, responding to their questions and offering them with career guidance,” said the Marketing officer, adding that the University stand received a lot of enquiries on the Bachelor of Technology in Cosmetology and Beauty Science program, which is currently only being offered at MMUST.

Education and career exhibitions present an opportunity for Universities to market themselves to potential clients. MMUST has fully embraced these events and has been utilizing them to attract and recruit prospective students from across the country and beyond. As the University gears towards its May and September intakes, such efforts are certainly crucial to increasing student enrollment.
