Under his leadership, TVET has achieved significant growth and I am ready to take it to the next level,” stated the incoming Principal. He also pointed out that preparations to move the Institute to Webuye are ongoing, calling on the Management to hasten the allocation of resources towards it in order to have the institution inspected and accredited by the TVET Authority as soon as possible. “The infrastructure that is available at the Webuye Campus is good, but it needs to be renovated,” he added.
Prof. Stephen Odebero and Prof. Basil Ong’or share a light moment during the handover ceremony.
“I am leaving this office at a time when the Institute has made a lot of progress, especially in terms of programmes. Our courses, which have all been aligned to the Competency-Based Education and Training curriculum, and accredited by TVETA, have attracted many students from across the country,” said Prof. Ong’or. The outgoing Principal further noted that the MMUST-TVET Institute was the first one of its kind in a Kenyan University, adding that nearly two-thirds of the Universities in the Country benchmarked with MMUST before establishing their TVET Institutes. “I am grateful to the Management, led by the Vice Chancellor-Prof. Solomon Shibairo, for appointing me to the position of Acting Principal of this great Institute. I am convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Prof. Stephen Odebero is equal to the task, and wish him all the best as he takes over,” remarked Prof. Ong’or.
The handover was witnessed by staff from TVET, including the Deputy Principal of the Institute, Dr. Samuel Waweru. The MMUST-TVET Institute has made tremendous growth since its inception.
