Vice-Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo Hosts Media Breakfast to Highlight University Development and Future Prospects

In an effort to foster closer ties between the University and the mainstream media, the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Solomon Shibairo, today, 19th March 2025 hosted the highly impactful and well attended Vice Chancellor’s Media Breakfast (VMB). The event, held at the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom, provided an opportunity for members of the Fourth Estate to engage with the University’s leadership, gain insight into the latest developments, and discuss the institution’s future prospects. The VMB was organized by the Directorate of Corporate Communications and Marketing (DCCM) led by the Director, Dr. Lydia Anyonje. The session was a significant part of MMUST’s efforts to maintain transparent communication with the public, as well as its commitment to growth, academic excellence, and community engagement.

While addressing the media, Prof. Shibairo shared the University’s key achievements over the past year, focusing on the realignment of academic programs to CBC, infrastructure upgrades, and research innovations. He highlighted MMUST’s efforts to ensure a holistic educational experience for its students while positioning the institution as a leader in Science, Technology, and Research.

“Through the Vice Chancellor’s Media Breakfast, we aim to communicate directly with the media, a vital partner in telling our story and helping us meet our goals,” said the VC.

The Vice Chancellor was flanked by the Ag. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovation- Prof. Peter Bukhala who emphasized the role of strategic planning in driving the University’s growth and success. He shared insights into the ongoing planning and research efforts aimed at enhancing both the academic and administrative aspects of MMUST.

The highlight of the event was the handing over of equipment donated by VOSH Michigan to the Vice Chancellor. The VC received the state-of-the-art Optometry equipment from the Dean, School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology- Dr. Evans Raballah accompanied by the Chairperson of the Department of Optometry and Vision Science- Dr. Julius Rono. The equipment is expected to benefit both students and the broader community by improving the training of Optometrists and access to eye care services.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Media Breakfast provided an interactive forum where journalists posed questions, discussed current issues, and explored ways in which MMUST could improve its collaborations with the media and the community.
