Kisiwa Technical Training Institute Set to Sign MOU with MMUST as the Two Discuss Possible Areas of Collaboration

MMUST-Kisiwa TTI teams at the University’s Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL).

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kisiwa Technical Training Institute, as the two (2) institutions met in MMUST on Wednesday, 28th February, 2024, to discuss possible areas of collaboration. The meeting, which took place at the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), was attended by delegates from Kisiwa TTI, led by the Career Services Officer-Mr. Cyprian Okello, as well as MMUST staff.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Edwin K. Kanda, who was chairing the meeting on behalf of the Director-DIAL, Dr. Umulkher Ali, stated that he looked forward to formalizing the MMUST-Kisiwa TTI partnership by signing an MoU. “There are very many areas that we can partner in, including in research, innovation, community outreach, consultancy, and in the provision of attachments and internship opportunities,” said Dr. Kanda.

The Dean-School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE), Prof. Eng. Bernadette Sabuni, reiterated that she was eager to see the partnership actualized, adding that the collaboration will not only enable resource sharing between MMUST and Kisiwa TTI, but also ensure capacity building for the trainers of both institutions.

“Kisiwa TTI, as an institution that offers a wide range of technical and vocational academic programmes, will work very well with MMUST, seeing that we also have TVET courses,” pointed out the Deputy Principal-MMUST TVET Institute, Dr. Samuel Waweru. Dr. Waweru revealed that the MMUST TVET Institute has a population of 3,000 students pursuing Diploma and Certificate courses, and that it has developed a number of Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) programmes. He added, “as an Institute, we are ready to collaborate with you especially in sharing equipment and resources.”

Other members of MMUST present during the meeting were; the Director of Privately Sponsored Student Programs and Campuses, and the In-Charge University Advancement Office-Prof. Peter Bukhala, Chairperson of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department, Dr. Emmanuel Osore, Mr. Nelman Monari, Ms. Roseline Olumo and Ms. Dorine Ambetsa. The Kisiwa TTI team comprised; Ms. Lucy W. Kisuya, Mr. Sanny Mabele and Ms. Carolyne Wekesa.

MMUST and Kisiwa Technical Training Institute’s partnership is off to a great start and will certainly lead to positive outcomes with an MoU in place.
