Exchange students from Oulu University of Applied Sciences-Finland, have paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Charles Mutai, ahead of their departure on 5 June, 2024. The two (2) students, who have been studying at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology courtesy of the Global Mobility (KA171) project under the Erasmus+ program, met Prof. Mutai on Friday, 17 May, 2024. They were accompanied by the Director, Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL)-Dr. Umulkher Ali and the Director, Directorate of Science Park Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC)-Dr. Tecla Sum, who is also a principal coordinator of the Erasmus+ program in MMUST.
“As a University, we embrace collaborations with other institutions of higher learning, especially in student exchange programs. We encourage our students to explore opportunities in different countries so that they experience new perspectives as well as learn foreign cultures,” stated the Ag. Vice Chancellor, adding that MMUST will continue to support its staff and students in getting international opportunities.

In her remarks, Dr. Sum thanked the University Management for supporting the partnership between MMUST and Oulu University of Applied Sciences, which has gone on for many years. “MMUST has received a total of 13 students from Oulu University since 2022. Currently, two of our students in Paramedic and Nursing Departments are in Oulu University on an exchange program, and we intend to send eight more of them in August and December this year,” revealed Dr. Sum.
“The relationship between MMUST and Oulu University of Applied Sciences is one of the most active partnerships we have in this University. We look forward to making MMUST the hub for international students as we have so much to offer,” said the Director, DIAL.

Notably, the Erasmus+ program covers mobilities in the areas of innovation, trauma and emergency, research, nursing, as well as paramedic education. It also ensures the sharing of good clinical practices from Africa's and Europe's environments, and supports the youth to participate in exchange programs and cultural awareness.
The students currently on the three-month Global Mobility program are Kerttu Jankkila and Laura Heikkinen from Finland; David Migot and Ida Chebet from Kenya. Staff from the two Universities have also participated in the mobility program.
