MMUST Continues to Embrace the Erasmus+ Mobility Program as Gateway to Global Perspectives

The Department of Nutritional Sciences is hosting four esteemed Professors; Prof. Perić Marko (Dean), Grofelnik Hrvoje, Prof. Vanja Vitezić, Prof. Alenka Šuljić Petrc, from the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management. This visit is part of the Erasmus+ mobility program, renowned for fostering cross-border educational experiences that enhance knowledge, promote cultural exchange, and build global networks. The project is steered by Dr. Rose Shikuri, the Department of Nutritional Sciences Chairperson. On 17th September 2024, the visitors had a round table meeting with staff from the Department of Nutritional Sciences at ABA 208 and later had a workshop with students at MCU 001.

The visit by the Professors from the University of Rijeka offers a unique opportunity to integrate diverse perspectives into our curriculum. Their expertise in tourism and hospitality management will equip our students with fresh insights into international trends and practices. Since these fields are increasingly intertwined with nutrition and wellness, the Professors’ knowledge will be invaluable in exploring holistic approaches to these disciplines.

Speaking during a joint meeting with the visiting Professors and members of the faculty, Dr. Shikuri noted that this collaboration will also allow our faculty members to engage in meaningful dialogue with their counterparts from Rijeka. “Through such collaborative research projects, both institutions can share innovative ideas and best practices. This exchange of knowledge is essential for staying at the forefront of academic and industry developments,” said Dr. Shikuri.

For students, the benefits of this Erasmus+ project cannot be overstated. They participated in joint sessions with the visiting professors which enabled them to gain exposure to international perspectives. The workshop was not just a platform for academic enhancement but it also broadened their cultural horizons and prepared them for a globalized workforce.

Indeed, this is a significant milestone for the Department of Nutritional Sciences which highlights the importance of international cooperation in academia. As MMUST embraces such opportunities, we continue to provide our students and faculty with valuable experiences that prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of a globalized world.
