Dr Humphrey Agevi, a climate change expert from the Department of Biological Sciences and School of Natural Sciences (SONAS) at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), has been nominated as a reviewer for the 7th edition of the UNEP's Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7). This is due to his expertise which was identified as essential to ensuring the highest quality of the significant work of the development of 7th edition of the UNEP's Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7).

Speaking to the Directorate of Corporate Communications and Marketing Crew, Dr Agevi expressed his elation regarding the GEO-7 nomination. “My stint as reviewer will build my capacity, expand my network and place MMUST on the global map. I intend to leverage this to influence critical conversations about the environment,” said Dr. Agevi.
The Global Environment Outlook (GEO), is the flagship report of the UNEP, which provides an integrated assessment of the drivers of environmental change, the current state of the environment, and solutions pathways for policymakers GEO also focuses on. the effectiveness of policy responses and the options for achieving different possible futures in the medium to long term by providing them with sufficient guidance on the practical steps for policy development, adoption, and implementation. timing, potential challenges, ways to assess and manage synergies, trade-offs, unintended consequences and harness the potential socio-economic benefits of these transformations.
Dr. Agevi will be involved in the assessment, the state and trends of the global environment, the implications for human well-being, and the achievement of the SDGs. Dr. Agevi will be part of the team that will provide an outlook that offers useful guidance on the possible environmental and socio-economic consequences of the transformational changes needed. This will ensure continuity with previous GEOs and allow GEO-7 to provide some updates on the environmental impact of the global pandemic and recent disasters and conflicts. The peer review period is currently planned for 01 November 2024 -15 January 2025.
This nomination is a milestone not only for Dr. Agevi but also for MMUST. True to its name as ‘a university of science and technology’, MMUST has once again exhibited its mettle in steering global policy action through the nomination of Dr. Agevi as a reviewer of UNEP's prestigious GEO-7.
