The 2024 Surveillance Audit Kicks Off!

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s 2024 surveillance audit by Bureau Veritas Certification has officially kicked off. The audit began with an opening meeting held in the Senate Boardroom, where the Bureau Veritas team, led by Ms. Mary Wainaina, joined MMUST Heads of Cost Centres. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Planning Research and Innovation, Prof. Charles Mutai, who was representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo.

The audit, which will go up to Thursday 31st October 2024,  is centered on three primary areas: educational training, research, and community engagement. The key objectives of the audit include verifying the management system’s adherence to audit standards, assessing MMUST’s successful implementation of planned processes, evaluating the system’s ability to meet the university’s policies, objectives, statutory, regulatory, and contractual obligations, and identifying any potential areas for improvement.

Speaking during the opening meeting. Prof. Mutai warmly welcomed the Bureau Veritas team to MMUST, expressing appreciation for the productive partnership the University has had with them since 2018. He acknowledged that MMUST’s ISO certification has notably improved the institution’s operational efficiency and stakeholder satisfaction. “We have made significant progress in many areas, although there is still room for improvement. Quality remains our primary objective, and our dedicated staff are fully prepared to support this mission,” stated Prof. Mutai.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Prof. Hussein Golicha emphasized MMUST’s dedication to maintaining high standards in all academic and operational aspects. “ MMUST is a student-centred University that focuses on academic endeavors, which we orchestrate with high professional standards. Indeed, we are determined to attain excellent levels of achievement in the manner in which we prepare our students,” said Prof. Golicha.

Representing the Director of Quality Assurance, Prof. Danstone Lilechi, the Coordinator of Quality Assurance, Dr. Paul Ogenga reiterated the University’s commitment to quality and excellence in academic, procedures and processes. “This Directorate is dedicated to ensuring quality and excellence,” he said.

Ms. Wainaina provided the Heads of Cost Centres with an overview of the audit process, detailing what they could expect throughout the exercise. She thanked MMUST for its continued commitment to ensuring quality and expressed optimism for the audit’s role in further strengthening MMUST’s management system.  Accompanying her was Mr. Fredrick Bosire, who will also participate in the audit activities.

The opening meeting was also attended by staff from the Directorate of Quality Assurance including, Data Technician, Mr. Cornelius Chemwile; the Directorate’s Statistician, Mr. Job Sirengo; and Mr. Daniel Chirchir, the Administrative Assistant.
