Prof. Kennedy Bota Participates in Staff Mobility Program at International Hellenic University (IHU), Greece

Prof. Kennedy Bota, esteemed Associate Dean- the School of Education, known for his innovative research in sustainable development, recently participated in Staff Mobility at International Hellenic University (IHU) from 12th to 21st October 2024.  His visit is expected to enrich the University’s academic environment and provide valuable insights into contemporary issues facing global sustainability efforts.

He made several presentations on the collaborative work between the School of Education and the School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedical Sciences. During his time at IHU, Prof. Bota explored potential research collaborations and curriculum development opportunities with fellow Professors from Kosovo, Albania, and Greece.

The participants agreed that the Professors present at the event will explore and respond to calls for research proposals that come up from time to time for the benefit of their research teams and students in their respective Universities. There after, the Professors met the  Vice Reactor for internationalization Prof. Konstantinos Diamantaras who emphasized that students from the participating Universities should take up opportunities created by Erasmus Plus for them to travel to IHU for their studies.  He thanked Prof. Dimitris Theofanidis for creating robust collaborations in Nursing with various Universities globally.

Meeting the Vice reactor of internationalization in IHU

Prof. Bota also visited the University of Macedonia where he met Prof. Christina Syriopoulou, who for the last three years, has been responding to Erasmus plus call for capacity building with the title ‘Training Higher Education students to enable the inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism through ICT.’ The proposal is currently placed under the reserve list in the funding list and it atargeted Euros 793 596.00.  The duo had a chance to relook at the reviewers' comments together and agreed on how to lead their respective team members to address them amicably.

Additionally, Prof. Syriopoulou pointed out that the University of Macedonia is keen to collaborate with MMUST. She promised to link the Erasmus office at the University of Macedonia with the Directorate of International and Academic Linkages at MMUST.

While at IHU, Prof. Bota made a presentation on the burden of Sickle Cell Anaemia (SCA) in Kenya saying that he together with a team of researchers are working towards the establishment of a SCA center at MMUST to screen, counsel, manage, and treat those affected by the disease. He also emphasized the aspect of looking for funders from Europe to as to realize the establishment of the center. Commenting about his visit, Prof. Bota noted that it was a wonderful opportunity for him to share experiences and learn from colleagues from different cultural backgrounds.
