MMUST Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo Highlights the University Readiness on COVID 19 via 103.9 MMUST FM

The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo today pointed out the University Covid 19 preparedness on 103.9 MMUST FM. The renowned professor of Horticulture outlined the various measures the University has put in place to combat the spread of the virus having taken over the University leadership at the time of the pandemic.

“The most powerful thing to do is to equip the community, this has been achieved through the various educative training sessions that our Emergency Response Team led by the Rtd. Col. Prof John Okoth has conducted to the Kakamega health workers and the community at large,” said Prof. Shibairo. Other measures include; production of sanitizers, jik and soap, minimize points of entry into the University, MMUST has set up points for hand hygiene in preparation for the resumption of normal operations.

Speaking during the interactive, educative and entertaining session on MMUST Fm the host Nancy Imali, Prof. Shibairo assured the students that his leadership will have their interests at heart and that even as the country is in the process of reviving normal operations, the University will ensure that they are safe from the virus by fumigating their residence areas and even providing them with masks. He further assured the staff to be patient as he works on addressing their issues that have been existing over a long time.

Prof. Shibairo did not only address the matters on Covid but also rolled out his vision about MMUST. He reiterated that he looks forward to make MMUST a centre of academic excellence in Engineering, Medicine especially on Cancer, Disaster Management, Sports and Performing Arts as well as a premier University in Research.

Amidst the pandemic that learning has been disrupted, MMUST has resolved to online operations. Masters and PhD students have been able to take their exams online and even conducted thesis defence.

“If you want to hide something, hide it in book, I am certain to take MMUST to greater heights,” said Prof. Solomon Shibairo.
