Dr. Evans M. Oruta is a Lecturer in the Department of Criminology and Social Work at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. He has over ten years teaching experience at the university and nineteen years of service in the National Police Service where he served as a Police Officer rising through the ranks to that of an Inspector of Police. His area of interest is Criminology with specialization in the Criminal Justice System practices, specifically on areas of correctional management, policing and security management.

  • Examinations Coordinator in the Department of Criminology & Social work from January, 2019 to date.
  • Teaching in the Department of Criminology & Social Work.
  • Conducting research and subsequently publishing papers on academic journals
  • Offering consultancy services on security issues and the various sub-fields of criminology such as crime measurement, penology, victimology etc.
  • Mentoring students in the Department of Criminology & Social work
  • Setting, invigilating & marking of students examinations
  • Career guidance of criminology students
  • ERP Champion with the responsibility of uploading marks on ERP system, processing results on ERP for graduating students and training staff on uploading marks on ERP and performing relevant tasks on ERP.

  • Officer in charge of operations and staffing at Kakamega County A.P headquarters. (July, 2014 to June, 2015)
  • Supervising activities of all officers under my command as an Inspector of Police
  • Coordinating official work between senior officers and the junior officers.
  • Managing Safety of VIP’s, staff and clients within government buildings.
  • Intelligence collection and analysis.
  • Conducting Criminal Investigations and writing of investigation reports.
  • Management and processing of Crime Scenes.
  • Development of Kakamega County crime prevention strategies.
  • Development of Monitoring and Evaluation mechanisms on Crime Prevention.
