Dr. Humphrey Agevi

Dr. Humphrey Agevi is a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Biological Sciences. He holds a Doctorate degree in Environmental Biology, Master of Science in Environmental Biology, and Bachelor of Education (Science) in Biology and Chemistry. He is a Fellow of both the Association American Geographers (FAAG) and My Community our Earth (MyCOE). His research and teaching interests are in Climate change, Agroforestry and ecosystem services where he looks at adaptation, mitigation and ecosystem resiliency. He teaches and supervises projects to both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the area of environmental Science and Natural Resources Management. Some of the units he teaches include : Agroforestry, Invasive species management, ecological restoration, Environmental law and Policies, Forest Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation and Management .

His current areas of research focus on how agriculture forest interface sequester carbon; assessment of vegetation dynamics including biodiversity assessment within agricultural and forest ecosystems. Dr.Agevi has been involved in a number of multidisciplinary research in the area of climate change key among them the UNEP/AGRA funded project in western Kenya. Currently he is undertaking a research to help determine how functions and operations within MMUST contributes towards carbon management and sustainable university. He is also involved in the review of curriculum and development of new programmes in his field of expertise.

Dr. Agevi is a key contributor to the development of several national and international peer-reviewed journals, books, conference papers, proceedings and presentations. He is also a Reviewer of several journals including: Journal of Health and Environmental Research (JHER), Journal of Tropical and Sub-Tropical Ecosystem and Journal of Environment and Sustainability. He is among the lead team for the Kenya Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) national network. (https://bit.ly/36pa91S ). He is also a member of the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP) (https://bit.ly/3xylxEv). He is a member of the African Forest forum (AFF), Kenya Forest Society (KFS), British Ecological Society (BES), Ecological Society of Eastern Africa (ESEA), East African Natural History Society (EANHS) among others. Dr. Agevi is currently the Departmental and School Coordinator in matters of Quality Assurance, Departmental Coordinator Field/Industrial Attachment and the UASU MMUST chapter Deputy Secretary General.
