Dr. Rahab W. Kamau

Dr. Rahab W. Kamau holds a PhD in Chemistry specializing in Organic Chemistry from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Additionally, she obtained Master of Science in Chemistry and Bachelor of Education (Science), degrees from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. Her areas of academic and research interest are; Organic, Environmental and Analytical Chemistry. Her key research work is geared towards finding alternative antiplasmodial, antibacterial, antifungal and anticancer medicine from natural sources. The motivation towards Dr. Rahab’s research interest is the role that medicinal plants/herbs play in management of various diseases/infections. However, most of their phytochemicals remain unknown and untapped. To achieve the research objectives, Dr. Rahab holds a wealth of knowledge in laboratory procedures including but not limited to; solvent extractions, analytical chemical separations (TLC, CC), data analyses and interpretation techniques (UV, NMR, IR, MS) and synthetic modifications of bioactive compounds. She currently serves as a Lecturer in the department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and a webometric champion in the Institute of Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Studies.
