Job Title and Responsibilities

Associate Professor, Strategic HRM & Corporate Governance 

With nearly three decades experience in academia, research, leadership, corporate governance and consultancy practice, Prof. Robert K.W. Egessa is a consummate Strategic Human Resource Management, Leadership and Governance trainer and practitioner. He has held significant leadership roles in universities and professional regulatory bodies with outstanding results.
At Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kenya, he has efficaciously been a Chair of the Department of Business Administration and Management Sciences, the Associate Dean and later Dean of the School of Business and Economics where he spearheaded exponential growth in terms of programmes offered, student numbers, faculty numbers, graduate employability rate, quality of programmes and industry linkages. He has also served the National Governing Council of the Kenya Institute of Management as a member (2017-2020) and its national chairman of the Membership committee (2014-2020).During this period, he was instrumental in enhancing the visibility and influence of the organization as a premier professional management body as well as spearheaded its continuous professional development programs. He has also been a committee member of the Western Kenya Branch (2018-2020) and later the National Governing Council’s Human Resource, Public Policy and Lobbying Committee of the Institute of Human Resource Management, the professional body of Human Resource Management Professionals in Kenya. Here, he contributed to policy development that continues to shape the Human Resource Management practice in Kenya. Additionally, he has been a speaker and facilitator at meetings, conferences and workshops locally and abroad.
He is a PhD in Business Management (Strategic Human Resource Management focus) alumnus of Moi University, an MBA- Human Resource Management graduate of Kenyatta University, a Bachelor of Education (Arts) baccalaureate of the University of Nairobi and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management graduate of the Cambridge International College, UK. Professionally, he is a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) and a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K). Additionally, he holds a Certificate in Governance and Health from the Global Health eLearning Centre, USAID as well as a certification in Human Resources for Health (HRH) from the same Institution. Robert’s teaching, research and consultancy interests traverse Strategic Human Resource Management, Corporate Governance and Leadership with a focus on how Leadership intersects with Strategic Human Resource Management in building sustainable organizations.
In all his endevours, Prof. Egessa has played an active role in training and shaping professional standards and practices in the Human Resource Management and Governance sectors. He has published widely and presented papers in conferences in these areas, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and practice in Organizational Development and Business Management. He is a member of the Kenya Institute of Management, Institute of Human Resource Management and the Institute of Certified Secretaries, Kenya. He is currently an Associate Professor of Strategic HRM and Corporate Governance and the Director, Career Services at MMUST.
