                            Dr Ruth Simiyu

Dr Ruth Simiyu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA). She holds a doctorate and MSc. degree in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. Her Bachelors degree is in Education (Home Economics).  She is a Disaster Management Expert with her research focusing on sustainable humanitarian assistance with the aim of i) Capacity building through training, counselling, advocacy and awareness creation at the same time engendering interventions to reduce vulnerabilities in the communities. ii) Societal behaviour change in communities by examining lifestyle changes, particularly in local/indigenous knowledge and practices, drug and substance abuse, risky sexual behaviour, gender based violence, mental health, food security, child development and societal conflicts).  Her major scholarly contribution has been through research resolutions made at the NACADA conferences on management of drug and Substance abuse in Kenya. She currently serves as the Departmental chairperson of the Postgraduate Committee in the Department of Peace and conflict Studies).
