Dr.Umulkher Ali

Dr.Umulkher Ali is the Director,International Relations and Academic Linkages  and Lecturer at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Economics and Geography), M.A Economics from Masinde Muliro University and a PhD in Economics from Universidad Azteca in Austria. She was awarded 2021 African -German Network of Excellence In Science(Agnes) Junior Female  Researcher Grant By  Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) and the German Ministry of Education and  Research (BMBF).She is a fellow of the UNESCO/Poland co-sponsored fellowship and the recipient of the AGNES junior researcher grant,2017.

She has worked as a research assistant for the Ministry of Tourism and the Retirement Benefits Authority in Kenya and is currently the Co-principle Investigator for the project“Enhancing Adoption of Climate Smart Agricultural Technologies and Innovations through Effective Dissemination and Market Linkages for Improved Livelihoods in Kenya(KCSAP) 2019-2021” funded by the World Bank and the Government of Kenya. She was also the Lead Consultant for the project “Greening Agriculture Value Chain for Sustainable Post-Harvest Losses Management in East Africa Community, 2020”funded by UNESCO. Her research interest is in development economics including development research, policy analysis, financial development, foreign investment, agriculture value chain analysis, gender mainstreaming, political economy and public choice. She has peer reviewed publications including journal articles, a book, a book review and two refereed learning modules. Her academic research ambition is to provide evolving meaningful and optimal solutions to various problems of Africa’s economies through research, dissemination of findings and public policy decision-making. She is a member of Association for the Advancement of African Women Economists (AAAWE), Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID) and Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA).
