 Dr. Gregory Sakwa

Dr.Sakwa is a post-doctoral fellow at UAB under the sponsorship of Integrated Network of Scholars in Global Health Research, (INSIGHT) under Fogarty International Center, FIC, with a degree(s) in Health Promotion (PhD), MSc Health Sciences and BSc Nursing.He is  currently working at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kenya as a Lecturer.

His research focuses on developing and testing implementation strategies to improve the uptake of evidence-based practices.Dr.Sakwa's primary area of interest is in cervical cancer prevention and control (particularly screening, HPV vaccination and on capacity building of Community Health Workers) among low-income and rural populations in Kenya and underserved populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). He mentors undergraduate and post graduate students. 

His current mentors during the fellowship are Prof. Isabel C. Scarinci, PhD, MPH (Professor and Vice-Chair for Global and Rural Health, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Alabama at Birmingham) and Dr. Zachary Kwena PhD Lead Social scientist, Kenya Medical Research Institute. Dr.Sakwa's current project is on Co-Designing a culturally acceptable Strategy to optimize uptake of Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment for women in rural communities of Kenya.
