  Prof. Stephen Onyango Odebero.

Stephen O. Odebero is Professor of Education Planning, in the Department of Educational Planning and Management at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya. He is currently the Director, Directorate of Post Graduate Studies at MMUST. He is credited as the founding Deputy Principal Administration, Finance and Planning at Turkana University College, a Constituent College of MMUST, a position he held for 4 years since 2017. He also founded the School of Open and Distance e-Learning at MMUST as Director from 2014-2017. In March 2020, Prof. Odebero was appointed Vice Chancellor of the Prestigious University of Kigali (UoK) in the Republic of Rwanda but he did not take up the appointment because of the Covid 19 pandemic.  He holds a PhD in Education Planning of Egerton University and specializes in equity in higher education financing. He has over 15 years experience as senior lecturer and researcher in many universities locally and internationally including Egerton, Laikipia, Chuka and University of  Leipzig in Germany where he engaged with graduate students at the Centre for Area Studies. He has authored over 72 scholarly works of international standing 6 of which are university level text books. Some of his most outstanding works include:  Education inequalities and Opportunities in the East African Region.’ In SID, East African Integration: Dynamics of Equity in Trade, Education, Media and Labour and  ‘The place of MOOCs in Africa’s higher education: bridging the digital divide or widening it?’ in Fredrick M. Nafukho, and Beverly J. Irby (2015) Handbook of Research on Innovative Integration of Technology in Higher Education published in the US. He is a DAAD scholar who attended  a 3 months research visit at the University of Leipzig’s research academy to study causes of unequal cross-border higher education student’s mobility in East African Community. Odebero is also the founding Vice Chairman of Educational Management Society of Kenya.  He is an alumni of Sigalame High School and Tala Boys School in Machakos County. In the Devolved governance, Prof.  Odebero served as the founding Chairman of County Education Board (CEB) in Busia County. He attended training for Presidents of Universities in Anglophone Africa in Peoples Republic of China where he also addressed the 3rd Africa-China Think Tank forum in Beijing. Prof Odebero also served on the Taskforce of Competence Based Curriculum reforms but was recently appointed secretary of the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Professors Forum. He was Awarded the Prestigious inter-continental Indo-African Education Excellence Academic Award 2021 in Educational Planning (FIEE)
