Dr Rose M. Shikuri

Dr Rose Shikuri is the Chairperson, Department of Nutritional Sciences, School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership Studies, Food Security and Development from King’s College London in the United Kingdom. She is a Commonwealth Scholar. Her major scholarly contribution was   Leadership and the Politics of Nutrition for Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Homa Bay and Kakamega Counties in Kenya.

She teaches, supervises, mentors and advises both postgraduate and undergraduate students on academic and research areas. Her areas of academic and research interest are in the fields of Food and nutritional security, Nutrition and disease management e.g. HIV/AIDS, Cancer, diabetes, maternal and child health and promtion, nutrition in the life cycle, leadership studies and development. Her current ongoing research project has a major emphasis on curriculum development in Maternal and Child Health and Promotion and Basic Health Education for vulnerable communities in Kenya having won a grant of 719,939 Euros with Erasmus+ KA220 Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) with 5 other universities.

Dr Rose Shikuri holds a PhD in Leadership Studies, Food Security and Development from King’s College London in the United Kingdom (2023), a Master of Science in Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics from Kenyatta University (2005), and a Bachelor of Education in Home Economics from Kenyatta University (1993). She worked at the University of Kabianga as the pioneer Head of Department Tourism, Hospitality and Human Resource and assistant lecturer who initiated the B.Sc. in Hospitality and Tourism Management programme. She has also worked as a Home Science teacher for many years and a Head of Department Guidance and Counselling while at Gathirimu Girls High School in Kiambu. She has also served as the Organizing Secretary and member of the board of directors, Forum for African Women Educationists Kenya Chapter (FAWEK).
