ABOUT THE PROJECT
The Climate Mobility Africa Research Network (CMARN) is a multidisciplinary,
bi-lingual (EN+FR) network of researchers and policymakers working on displacement and migration in the context of disasters and climate change in Africa. Established in 2021 by researchers from across Africa and beyond, CMARN aims to advance evidence-based law and policy responses to climate mobility in Africa. CMARN promotes policy-relevant research and creates opportunities for collaboration and exchange between researchers and policymakers working in a wide range of fields, including climate change, disaster risk management, migration, free movement of persons, transhumance, human rights, refugee protection, IDP protection, and planned relocation.
Activities:
- Organizing regular webinars and networking Events, for CMARN Members to learn more about law and policy responses to climate mobility in Africa, connect, and collaborate on future research.
- Publishing Climate Mobility Africa Insights, a series of fact sheets and policy briefs on addressing climate mobility in Africa
- Sharing research and Information about climate mobility among Members and others interested in learning about this issue.
Objectives:
- To promote critical and independent research on law and policy responses to disaster and climate change-related human mobility in Africa
- To foster collaboration between researchers and policy experts with the goal of supporting evidence-based law and policy development on displacement and migration in the context of disasters and climate change and their implementation
- To develop knowledge and capacity among researchers in and from Africa on these issues, including early career researchers.
