About this Project
Quality training is the pillar towards success and growth of any Nation. However, effective research, teaching and/ or learning requires a wholesome understanding of global trends and practices. This would be through content, the learners and human capital development. This collaboration therefore bridges the gap among participating countries in hospitality practice by bringing together learners and teachers through mobility program. Consequently, this facilitates the exchange of knowledge and skills at a regional and/ or global level. Further, collaborations in research and innovation will yield watertight industry practice and policies thus catapulting the industry to great heights.
In effect therefore, this collaboration will yield quality research and innovation, which is necessary in solving industry-based societal, national and international problems, as well as nurture not only independent researcher but also mentors. The Erasmus KA171 Mobility Project will therefore play a big role in transforming the potential of participants into reality through their contribution to the global approach, in providing guidelines in policy and practice; with the ripple effect being solving of emerging global problems.
Two members of staff from the Department of Nutritional Sciences – Dr Rose Shikuri and Dr Simon Were have visited University of Rijeka - Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management on the Erasmus+ mobility staff and students program (KA171). Two members of staff from the University of Rijeka Prof Sinisa Bogdan and Mrs. Vedrana Cikes were in MMUST in January-February 2024.
This is part of Erasmus KA171 Mobility Project and Exchange of Higher Education Staff and Students funding from external policy funds of the European Union. The project aims to strengthen student and staff mobility, international cooperation, policy development, social Inclusion and diversity, and capacity-building initiatives. The mobility project resonates with the internationalization strategy of the higher education institutions involved in Africa and beyond. The corporation also seeks to increase the quality of teaching, networking, competence development, promotion of cultural awareness, and development of a more positive attitude towards internationalization.
The program started in August 2023 and will run till July 2025 whereby staff and students will visit University of Rijeka and MMUST. Two of our students Brian Nyatogo and Evangeline Kemboi are currently in Croatia on the same program for a period of 5 months until July 2024. Such programs are in tandem with Kenya's focus on national development which is anchored on quality education and hospitality and tourism improvement. It will also be an opportunity for MMUST to benefit in terms of infrastructure and specialized facilities, multi-disciplinary collaborations, and cross-border projects. Staff involved in the project will be able to establish networks, exchange best practices, and develop partnershipswith colleagues from other institutions to enrich their professional profiles.
