Prof. Wanjala Martin Manyonge Sibweche
Professor Wanjala Martin Manyonge Sibweche is an Associate Professor of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media, Department of Science and Mathematics Education, School of Education, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). He teaches mathematics education and curriculum courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His area of interest is research in the fields of teacher professional development, mathematics education and curriculum, instruction and educational media. He is currently the Principal Investigator of Mathematics Instructional Practice Improvement Project (MIPIP) Kenya, a funded project by IDRC-CANADA (Grant No. 110513-001 Amount 490,200 CAD) for period 1st July 2024 to 30th June 2026. The project seeks to improve the use of data to improve instruction practice and involves 250 mathematics teachers in secondary schools from 11 Counties in the Western region of Kenya. The project innovation has been tested in secondary schools in Kakamega County, Kenya during the years 2021-2023 funded by MMUST University Research Fund 2022 (MMU/URF/2022/1-017). As a mathematics education expert, he evaluated the Strengthening Teacher Mentorship and Support Project (SITMS) funded by IDRC and based in three countries, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia in year 2023. He served as a Post-Doctoral Research fellow in the years 2014-2015 in the Data Informed Practice Improvement Project based at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and funded by the National Research Foundation Award (Republic of South Africa) and Wits University Research Committee. He is a research consultant with the Kenya National Examinations Council research department and participates in National Assessment Systems for Monitoring Learner Achievement research activities. He has served as an external examiner for the Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Educational Media, Kabianga University and the Department of Teaching and Pedagogy, Kibabii University.
He holds a Doctororate of Philosophy in Curriculum Instruction and Educational Media from Moi University, Kenya (2010), Master of Philosophy Degree in Educational Communication and Technology from Moi University (2005) and Bachelor of Education (Arts) from Moi University (2002). He has supervised to completion 5 PhDs and 7 Masters of Science in Mathematics and Science Education projects. He has also examined 9 PhDs and 20 master’s thesis projects for MMUST, Egerton, Kisii & Kibabii Universities in Kenya.
