MMUST Students To Be Panelists At The Kippra Mentorship Programme

The Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), in collaboration with Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, is organizing the KIPPRA Mentorship Programme for Universities (KMPUs), which will take place on Monday, 18th March, 2019 at the Main Campus. This programme, which is designed to link public policy makers and the academia for the purposes of promoting national development, will bring together university students, lecturers, government institutions and the private sector.

The Office of the  Dean of Students  at Masinde  Muliro  University  of Science and Technology (MMUSD has the mandate to provide assistance to students and provide  a conducive  learning environment  for them to achieve the best out of their educational  opportunities.   In  its quest to be  a  world   class student-centered   University,  MMUST recognizes  its  students  as   the  most important  clientele, hence, seeks to provide a suitable academic and social environment.

In Quest for International Collaborations

The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology 2015/16 - 2019/20 Strategic Plan lists Internationalization, Collaboration and Linkages as one of its strategic issue. Under this Strategic Issue Nine, the University undertakes to enhance collaborative and linkage activities with local, national and international partners. Through the Directorate of International Relations and Academic Linkages, the University received and hosted Prof. Ganesh Koramannil of Charles Darwin University (CDU), Australia, as from 181h to 22nd February 2019. The visit by Prof. Ganesh came as a follow-up of visit to Australia by Dr. Catherine Aurah, the Director, International Relations and Academic Linkages in November 2018.

Enhancing Research Culture Through the Melting Pot Seminar

The Melting Pot Research Seminar, organized and coordinated by the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies (DPS), was held on Friday, February 15, 2019. The Seminar is an innovation of MM UST which is designed to enhance the research culture at the University to provide an opportunity for researchers to network, have a forum for mentors and mentees as well as have high powered guests to impact knowledge on students.

MMUST on E-Health in Service Delivery for Western kenya

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), through the School of Public Health, Biomedical Sciences and Technology (SPHBS&T), hosted Flying Faculties from Germany for a workshop on e-health (Telemedicine) from 4th to 8th February, 2019.

MMUST RFC Thump the Catholic Monks RFC

A terrifically confrontentional and physical MMUST RFC got their redemption with a perfect 15-8 win over Catholic Monks RFC at Kakamega Showground on Saturday.
The visitors opened the scoreboard with a penalty conversion from fullback Newton Wasike with just 4 minutes into the game. MMUST RFC responded with a Timothy Mmasi penalty and just before halftime fullback Isaiah Mulongo made a good set piece run and delivered a grabber that was chased and dotted down by scrum half Derrick Okisai. The conversion went wide making the scores 8-3 in favour of the hosts.


The "Makaka" had momentum on their side and just 90 seconds into the second half, winger Tyson Juma grounded the ball just under the H and a good conversion by John Bahati made the scores 15-3. The visitors got a consolation try at the 65th minute through center back Reginald Masagwe. With a reputation to keep the Monks banged into MMUST's defence but all was in vain as the defense proved to be concrete making the full time scores 15-8 in favour of MMUST RFC.
With a win against Catholic Monks, MMUST now move to 5th position in the championship standings and are 18 points above Mombasa RFC, Kisii Rugby and Ngong Warriors. MMUST RFC will face Mombasa RFC next Saturday at the Mombasa Sports Club.

MMUST set to install environmentally friendly solar energy system

MMUST new administration block will soon undergo installation of worlds highly rated solar system.This is after an MOU was signed between MMUST and a Finnish company, Clean Energy Oy, on 29 th January 2019. Clean energy Oy specializes in clean renewable power generation. The company says it will be first powering the new administration block before they can move to other buildings in the university.

MMUST in the Dwell for Green Energy

On Tuesday 29th January 2019, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology  signed  a Memorandum  of Understanding  with Cleaner Future Oy, a company that  is  based  in Finland. Cleaner   Future Oy, is   an organization dedicated to providing  renewable solar energy system with  reliability and superior  power  quality  which  reduces the  cost of  electricity  and the  use of fossil fuels.

This    collaboration   includes  the   first phase   of   a    project   towards    saving energy in MMUST. This  activity  will start by powering  the  new Administration's block    wholly,    using     solar   energy, followed  by other  upcoming  buildings in the future. This  will  cut down electricity bills for the University in the  medium  to  long   term  plan. The technology  supplied   by Cleaner   Future Oy partners  is  cutting edge and a first  in the  world.  Not  only  is   the  source of energy   clean,     but   the   energy   their technology   produces is  also  clean in the sense   that   it  corrects   harmonics   and other noise   introduced  into the system by   computers    and    other   electronic equipment.  A clean waveform  directly results     in    significant      savings   and efficiency.

The group took an extensive tour of the new office building  to get an in depth understanding  of the installed  electrical. This will enable the technical  team come up with the least  disruptive strategy for augmenting  the building's system  with smart  solar  power

The key areas   of collaboration between the two institutions  will be centred around; renewable power generation, electrical    power  quality   improvement, renewable energy storage implementation, creation of an innovative business model on installation and utilization of renewables, and added value via power quality enhancement, joint fundraising for installation and operation of a showcase solar energy system on selected MMUST buildings, research facilitation through data acquired from installed systems for post graduate students, training workshops for solar energy systems, demonstration facility for the installed system at MMUST, highlighting the great advantages of renewable (solar), in line with Kenya's Big 4 Agenda, and enhancement of international and local linkages in renewable energy research and utilization.

Mr. Joni Lepisto, the company's CEO, first visited MMUST on December 5th 2018 where he paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Bosire and the Deputy Vice Chancellor Planning, Research and Innovation, Prof Egara Kabaji. Thereafter, a series of meetings and communication followed between the Cleaner Future's and a team that was led by the Chairperson of MMUST Greening Initiative, Dr James Owuor. The University's team comprised of; Dr. Catherine Aurah, the Director of International Relations and Academic Linkages, Dr. Ferdinand Nyongesa of Electrical and Communication Engineering Department, Dr. Consolata Ngala, the Associate Dean in the School of Postgraduate Studies and Mr. Patrick lmbalo of the Finance department.
