Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) was declared a Technical University by the Government of Kenya n February 2015 and authorized to offer TVET programmes. It is from this background that MMUST in its strategic plan 2015/16 – 2019/20 and also in the 2019/20 – 2022/23 incorporated the establishment of TVET as a strategic issue with the objective of establishing and operationalizing the TVET Institute.

The institute began as a unit in the year 2016 but was elevated to a directorate by senate in February 2017. The MMUST TVET Institute was fully registered as a Technical and Vocational College in accordance with the TVET Act, 2013 Section 20 (1) in January 2021. The Institute is responsible for training skilled manpower in Competency Based Education and Training (CBET) curriculum at the levels of certificate and diploma, to technology degree level.

The institute’s mandate also includes to undertake research and innovations, develop industrial linkages and offer community service. The TVET Institute has continued to develop competitive market driven programmes that are licensed by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) and focus on the industrial needs of our country. The Institute has entered collaboration agreement with several technical institutions such as Sigalagala National Polytechnic, Bushangala Technical Training Institute and the National Youth Service.
