We are delighted to inform you that Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Prof. Francis Orata has secured a 24,000 Euro-grant from the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI). The grant has been earmarked for the pumping and transportation of one hundred and sixty (160) litres of clean water daily to 100 households in Indangalasia village, Kakamega County. This comes after Prof. Orata, who is also the Director of Research and Postgraduate Support (DRPS) at MMUST, expressed his interest to participate in the ‘LIFE-2025-CET-ENERPOV’ project, titled ‘Alleviating Household Energy Poverty in Europe’.
The United Nations, in its commitment to promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, is actively engaging institutions of higher learning through the UNAI initiative, to cooperate in extrovert activities. Notably, MMUST is one of the institutions that was invited to join in the activities of the UNAI SDG7 Hub Energy Community, and this saw a team from the University propose the Vice Chancellor’s candidacy for the Hub’s Co-Chair. The UNAI SDG7 Hub Co-Chair is expected to undertake the leading role in one of the Chapters, including Teaching and Education, Research, as well as Outreach and Partnerships.
Prof. Orata has shown a keen interest in energy related research, especially in alternative energy sources and resources of the future. This award showcases MMUST in a good light to the globe, as it is evidence of the University’s role in promoting sustainable development and community-based research.
Congratulations to Prof. Orata on securing such a prestigious award. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
