MMUST Students Selected to Represent Kenya at FISU World University Games in Germany
Two students from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) are set to represent Kenya at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany. Ms. Annah Jumwa Mwandawiro, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Civil and Structural Engineering student, will compete in taekwondo, while Mr. Farnandas Okwena Onchiri, a second-year Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health student, will participate in badminton. Their selection follows their outstanding victories at the East Africa University Games held in Maseno University in December 2024. The international multi-sport event will run from 16th to 27th July, 2025.
Notably, both Ms. Jumwa and Mr. Okwena are beneficiaries of MMUST’s talent scholarship program, which supports student-athletes and those talented in performing arts. They will be joining other top university athletes under the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) as well as young talents from all over the world to highlight their sporting excellence.

“This is a proud moment for MMUST. It is incredibly motivating to see our students on the talent scholarship program achieve such global recognition. This milestone confirms that sports can open noteworthy opportunities beyond academics,” stated Mr. Shisoka Akaka, one of the University’s games tutors.
Their selection was confirmed by Ms. Joan Adalo, the Secretary General of the Federation. “Mr. Farnandas Okwena Onchiri and Ms. Annah Jumwa Mwandawiro have been selected to be part of the national university delegation for this prestigious global event, and their participation reflects the exemplary standards upheld by MMUST,” read the letter.

The World University Games, formerly the Universiade, brings together thousands of student-athletes from various countries. Our students’ selection for this international multi-sport event certainly positions MMUST among the few Kenyan universities contributing to international sports excellence.
