“TVETs are key to our economic growth and development agenda as a nation. In addition to providing individuals with the skills and training they need to succeed, TVETs are essential in addressing skills gaps, tackling unemployment thereby expanding a nation’s capacity for sustained growth,” said Prof. Shibairo.
The Vice Chancellor further challenged the MMUST TVET Board to strategically introduce short courses, modular courses, and micro-credentials to allow students to efficiently acquire in-demand skills and boost national productivity.

Ag. Principal MMUST TVET College-Prof. Stephen Odebero makes his remarks.
In his remarks, TVETA Regional Manager, Mr. Dan Odanga commended Prof. Shibairo’s commitment to technical training and delivered a clear mandate for the future. He urged both the University and the College to accelerate their preparedness for Competency-Based Education and training (CBET), especially to accommodate students joining after senior school. He also stressed the necessity for universities to create formal, hurdle-free pathways for qualified TVET level 6 (Diploma) graduates to advance their education.

This is a great step towards making skills training more flexible and responsive, for a diverse and dynamic workforce, ensuring that learners can progressively build up their competencies and, upon completion of all required modules within a given occupational area, qualify for a full certificate or diploma,” remarked Mr. Odanga.
