
Solofest 2026 to Be Hosted at MMUST Courtesy of Chairperson of Council, Dr. Pamela Sitienei
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology is set to host ‘SoloFest 2026’ on 20th to 21st March, 2026. This opportunity to host the prestigious sporting event has been offered to MMUST courtesy of the liaison between the MMUST Chairperson of Council, Dr. Pamela Sitienei and the organizers of SoloFest 2026. The festival has been organized around sports and music oriented activities. On 15th January 2026, Dr. Sitienei met the MMUST Rugby team members and their Assistant Coach, Mr. John Asila and the Team Manager, Mr. Kevin Agallo to inform them about MMUST’s participation and hosting of the upcoming SoloFest 2026 event.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Sitienei congratulated the MMUST Rugby team for their good performance over the years, adding that she would use her networks to assist them garner more opportunities and tournaments. “SoloFest will give our players a chance to be seen by the talent scouts and open opportunities for our students to get jobs. It is a strategic method of publicizing and marketing the University,” said Dr. Sitienei.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo who also attended the meeting with the MMUST Rugby team, was elated at the prospect of hosting the exciting SoloFest event. “MMUST has the capacity to host an event of this magnitude. Our rugby players have excelled so much that MMUST is now well-known in the sporting world of rugby,” stated Prof. Shibairo.
As a build up to the SoloFest, the MMUST Rugby team will benefit through sponsorships, gym training kits, and boots. Additionally, the rugby managers utilized the opportunity to present the team’s requests to the Chairperson of Council, Dr. Sitienei. Some of the requests included provision of a fully equipped ambulance, medical insurance covers for players and good nutrition.

“We appreciate the partial scholarships offered by the University to our players. We thank the Chairperson of Council, the University Management Board and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo for the financial and logistical support that they have accorded to our players over time. Our participation in the SoloFest will be a strategic move, which will promote our youth to play high level rugby. It is also an opportunity for them to be mentored and molded into active and responsible citizens,” stated Mr. Asila.
Undoubtedly, such high level participation in world class sports such as rugby is the way to go for MMUST and the MMUST Rugby team. Our students will benefit physically, materially and psychologically. Other sports need to upscale to such levels!
