
MMUST University Management Board Undergoes Disability Mainstreaming Training to Enhance Institutional Inclusion
Muliro University of Science and Technology’s University Management Board (UMB) has undergone a comprehensive training on disability mainstreaming as part of the institution’s commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education for all. The training held on 24th June 2026, at the Vice Chancellor’s Boardroom aimed to empower the University’s leadership with in-depth understanding of disability rights, relevant legal provisions, and inclusive policy formulation. It highlighted the critical role of top management in fostering an accessible and inclusive academic and work environment. This hybrid sensitization training, combining both virtual and in-person attendance, was organized by the Directorate of AIDS Control, Gender and Disability Mainstreaming Unit (ACGDMU) and facilitated by officials from the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).

Representing the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof. Golicha emphasized that the training was a crucial step in strengthening MMUST’s commitment to institutional inclusion. He noted that empowering top leadership with the knowledge and tools for disability mainstreaming is essential for driving institutional change and ensuring that all members of the university community are equally supported and valued.

Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Research and Innovations), Prof. Edwin Wamukoya noted that the training was a strategic opportunity to rethink how the University integrates disability inclusion into its research and development agenda. “This training reinforces our responsibility to integrate inclusion in every aspect of institutional planning and development,” said Prof. Wamukoya.

Similarly, the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Gender, AIDS Control, and Disability Mainstreaming Unit- Dr. Reuben Rutto pointed out that the training was a critical milestone in ensuring that disability inclusion is institutionalized at the highest level of university leadership.
NCPWD officials, Mr. Edwin Musungu and Ms. Jane Wamugu, highlighted key disability performance indicators and outlined the legal frameworks governing disability inclusion. Their presentations emphasized the need for institutions to align with national standards and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities through measurable actions and compliance with existing laws. They commended MMUST for endeavoring to enhance its inclusion component and encouraged the University to improve its operations on the areas they highlighted.

The University Management Board pledged to integrate the insights shared from the training into its decision-making processes, institutional culture, and its strategic development agenda.
This training marks a vital step towards embedding disability inclusion at the core of MMUST’s leadership and governance structures.
