
MMUST and KNUT Officials Meet to Discuss Joint Initiatives, Reviewing Progress of Collaborative Agreement
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology on Friday, 18th July, 2025, hosted delegates from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) to discuss joint initiatives as well as to review the progress of the Collaborative Agreement between MMUST and KNUT. The officials, led by the KNUT Western Region Secretary, Mr. Patrick Chungani, were received by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Finance)-Prof. John Kuria Thuo, who was standing in for the Vice Chancellor-Prof. Solomon Shibairo.
Friday’s discussions focused on key areas of collaboration, including the administration of discounted academic programmes at MMUST for KNUT members and their legal dependents. As stipulated in the Collaborative Agreement (CA), the University is obligated to offer a 16% tuition fee discount on Diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses to self-sponsored students within this group. This initiative has been positively received, with numerous beneficiaries since the implementation of the CA.

The meeting, which took place at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, was attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs)-Prof. Hussein Golicha, the Registrar (Academic Affairs)-Prof. Judah Ndiku, Dr. Kelvin Machuki-representing the Director of International Relations and Academic Linkages, and the Deputy Finance Officer-CPA Elkana Kinyor. The KNUT team comprised Mr. Tungani Shikhule (KNUT Secretary-Butere Branch) and Mr. Martin Waswa (KNUT-Secretary Lugari Branch).
The collaboration between MMUST and KNUT has improved the University’s visibility among the Union members, increasing the enrollment of students in various programmes. This partnership has achieved its intended goals, and there is no doubt that it will significantly foster educational development in the Country.
