
MMUST Celebrates Prof. Aggrey Mukasa Simiyu’s Years of Exemplary Service as He Retires from Active Service
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) on Friday, 14th November 2025, held a colorful ceremony to celebrate the distinguished career and retirement of Prof. Aggrey Mukasa Simiyu, a scholar and the founding Dean of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FESS). The event, graced by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, brought together staff and students to honor a man whose contribution to instructional technology and teacher education has left an indelible mark on the University.

Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Shibairo lauded Prof. Simiyu for his visionary leadership, integrity, and commitment to academic excellence. “As a Professor of Education specializing in Instructional Technology, Prof. Simiyu has spent decades shaping the pedagogical direction of this University and inspiring generations of teachers, researchers, and education leaders,” said Prof. Shibairo.
Reiterating the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Golicha applauded Prof. Simiyu for his exemplary service to the University, highlighting his outstanding leadership, dedication to academic excellence, and lasting impact on both staff and students he has mentored.

The Dean, School of Education, Prof. Moses Poipoi, highlighted Prof. Simiyu’s key contributions in transforming the School. He noted that under Prof. Simiyu’s stewardship, student enrolment grew from a modest 400 to more than 8,000, making it one of the largest Schools in the University. “Your tireless effort to improve the quality of education and your dedication to student welfare will not be forgotten. We will always remember your systematic approach and your commitment to excellence,” he stated.
Prof. Simiyu, who began his journey at MMUST over two decades ago, is celebrated for pioneering the growth of instructional technology programs and championing innovative teaching methodologies. As the founding Dean of FESS, he steered the Faculty through major curriculum reforms, expanded research output, and strengthened community engagement within the education sector.

In his remarks, Prof. Simiyu expressed gratitude to the University management, colleagues, and students for the support accorded to him throughout his tenure. He emphasized that MMUST will always remain a home to him, noting that his achievements were a result of teamwork, collaboration, and shared commitment to advancing education in Kenya.

The celebration featured goodwill messages from staff especially within the School of Education, all highlighting Prof. Simiyu’s mentorship, humility, and strong work ethic. They described him as a ‘father’ who guided with wisdom, corrected with patience, and inspired with humility.
