
Prof. George Lawi Declared the Academic Staff Representative on MMUST’s Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme
The MMUST Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme has today 18th November 2025, been officially declared Prof. George Owuor Lawi as the Academic Staff Representative on the Board of Trustees of the MMUST Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme. This follows a vetting process for candidates aspiring to the prestigious Trustee position. The Committee tasked with the selection confirmed that Prof. Lawi met all eligibility requirements as stipulated in the Scheme’s Trust Deed Rules and the Benefits Regulations.

As a Trustee, Prof. Lawi is set to oversee the management and strategic direction of the Retirement Benefits Scheme, ensuring that it continues to safeguard and enhance the welfare of MMUST staff.

The elections committee was chaired by Mr. Cornelius Chemwile. The other members of the committee included Prof. Catherine Aurah, Ms. Penninah Naibei, Ms. Caroline Buluma and Mr. Oscar Kaye. The Secretariat were Ms. Celestine Mmasi and Mr. Benard Wesonga.
Speaking during the declaration ceremony, Prof. Lawi expressed his sincere appreciation to both the Retirement Benefits Scheme management and the academic staff for their continued trust and support. “I am truly grateful to the Scheme and, most importantly, the academic staff for granting me another opportunity to serve as your representative on the Board,” Prof. Lawi stated. “I accept the role with humility and a renewed commitment to our collective financial future,” he added.

Notably, this is the second time Prof. Lawi is clinching this position, underscoring the trust and confidence the academic staff place in his leadership.
