SCHOOL PRACTICE KEY TO STUDENT CAPACITY BUILDING AND ENHANCEMENT OF EFFECTIVE TEACHER EDUCATION, MMUST SCHOLARS SAY

Scholars at the just ended MMUST’s School Practice Advising Workshop have revealed that School Practice is key to student capacity building and enhancement of effective teacher education. The workshop themed ‘Teacher Education for Quality Teaching’, which took place on 31st March 2022, was organized by the Department of Curriculum and Instructional Technology (CIT). The well attended workshop on quality teaching saw more than one hundred (100) lecturers from different faculties within the University equipped with skills to guide students professionally in their school practice activities. 

MMUST SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP REVEALS THAT BUSINESS PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING (BPR) IS KEY TO INSTITUTIONAL SERVICE IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATIONS

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology sensitization workshop has revealed that Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is key to institutional service improvement. It enables organizations to review, interrogate and redesign their service delivery processes. The sensitization workshop themed ‘Business Process Re-engineering’ was organized by the Directorate of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) and conducted on 1st April, 2022 at Golf Hotel.

MMUST’S FRONTLINE WORKERS EMPOWERED ON COMPLAINTS MANAGEMENT DURING CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING STEERED BY COMMISSION ON ADMINISTRATIVE JUSTICE (CAJ)

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) frontline workers (Administrative Assistants and Secretaries), on 25th March 2022, got empowered on complaints management mechanisms. This was during a sensitization training steered by the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ) commonly known as Office of the Ombudsman.’ The event was organized by the University Ombudsman, Rev. Prof. Judith Achoka.

The keynote speakers from the National Ombudsman office Ms. Winnie Tallam- Senior Legal Officer and Mr. Franklin Lilako- Legal Officer I, took the staff through extensive presentations touching on the mandates of CAJ and other key distinctive roles of the Commission. The Office of the Ombudsman handles complaints relating to maladministration and those concerning Access to Information.

MMUST PICKED BY KENYA NUTRITIONISTS & DIETICIANS INSTITUTE (KNDI) AMONG OTHER ACCREDITED UNIVERSITIES FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) has been picked by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) for collaborative research among other accredited Universities in Kenya offering Clinical Nutrition. The KNDI Chief Executive Officer, Dr. David Kokeyo and Deputy Director Linkages and Outreaches, Africa Center of Excellence for Population Health and Policy- Bayero University (Nigeria), Prof. Salisu Maiwada Abubakar, visited MMUST yesterday, 30th March 2022, to chat a way forward that can enable collaboration of the two institutions.

MMUST’S AIDS CONTROL, GENDER AND DISABILITY MAINSTREAMING UNIT CONDUCTS HIV/AIDS, NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES SENSITIZATION AND SCREENING IN BID TO CURB HIGH PREVALANCE AMONG STAFF AND STUDENTS

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s AIDS Control, Gender and Disability Mainstreaming Unit (AGDMU) has concluded a sensitization health screening program dubbed ‘2022 MMUST Inter-Campus Health Screening’ within the main campus, Bungoma and Webuye campuses. This is in a bid to create awareness on Mental Health, HIV/AIDS as well as screening of non-communicable diseases. The program whose theme is ‘Beyond Zero Non-Communicable Diseases at MMUST’ is intended to reduce prevalence of non-communicable diseases among staff and students and will run until today, Thursday 31st March 2022.

PROFESSOR JOSEPHINE NGAIRA RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION AS ‘SCIENTIST OF THE YEAR 2021’ BY INTERNATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT RESEARCH CENTRE (IARC)

Professor Josephine K. Ngaira from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has been recognized as the ‘Scientist of the Year 2021’ by the International Achievement Research Centre (IARC). IARC is an international organization that empowers talented professionals in science, education, business and technology to achieve new possibilities. It fosters professional growth of talented scientists, engineers, and researchers from various regions of the world through showcasing the latest results of their work, their notable discoveries and breakthroughs that advance the frontiers of Science and Technology. This recognition was in the category of ‘Natural Sciences/Earth and Environmental Sciences/Physical Geography’. The evaluation was based on her commitment to excellence, leadership, outstanding professional achievements and impressive accomplishments demonstrated over the years.

MMUST-WALTER SISULU UNIVERSITY SCHOLARS TO CONDUCT JOINT RESEARCH, POSTGRADUATE ACTIVITIES AND PUBLISHING

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s School of Education and Walter Sisulu University’s Faculty of Education and School Development scholars are set to conduct joint research, postgraduate activities and publishing in a bid to exercise their mandate as institutions of higher learning. This joint initiative was made clear during the five-day Workshop which took place at MMUST from Monday, 21st March, 2022 to Friday, 25th March, 2022.

MMUST’s REMIGIO TURYAHABWE- INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FROM UGANDA SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS PHD IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

Yesterday, 24th March 2022, Remigio Turyahabwe, MMUST’s International Student from Uganda successfully defended his PhD thesis during an Oral Defense organized by the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies headed by Prof. Stephen Odebero. The title of the thesis was 'Influence of Different Land Uses on Ecosystem Health of River Sironko Catchment in Eastern Uganda.'

MMUST’S RESEARCH ON NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES BY DR. DAMARIS OCHANDA SET TO STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY STRATEGY FOR ACCESSIBILITY TO CARE IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s research on non-communicable diseases by Dr. Damaris Ochanda is set to strengthen the community strategy for accessibility to care in Kakamega County. This was exhibited during the two (2) day training for Research Assistants on data collection for the research titled, ‘Strengthening Community Strategy for Enhancing Accessibility to Care among Patients with Non-Communicable Diseases in Kakamega County during COVID-19 Pandemic’. The workshop, which took place on 23rd and 24th March 2022 at the Main Catering Unit 002 (MCU), was organized by the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedical Sciences (SONMAPS). This research is funded by the University Research Fund (URF) through the Directorate of Research and Postgraduate Support.
