MMUST TAKES IMPACTFUL JIGGER RESEARCH OUTPUTS TO COMMUNITIES IN HOMABAY COUNTY

A team of prolific researchers from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) are transforming communities through impactful jigger research that is set to completely metamorphosize the treatment of jigger infestation in Kenya and beyond.  This was exhibited on Friday, 20th May, 2022, when they mounted an outreach at Andiwo Primary School in Kanyamwa, Homabay County. The project is anchored in the Centre for African Medicinal and Nutritional Flora and Fauna (CAMNFF) whose centre leader is Prof. Maurice Vincent Omolo, a member of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

MMUST’S PARTNERSHIP WITH KONZA TECHNOPOLIS SET TO TRANSFORM KENYA’S RESEARCH AGENDA AND INNOVATION STRATEGY

MMUST’s partnership with Konza Technopolis is set to transform the research agenda of the entire country if the recent Konza Technopolis workshop is anything to go by. This was evident during the one- day sensitization workshop on 16th May, 2022 by Konza Technopolis which was organized by MMUST's Science Park, Innovation and Incubation Centre (SPIIC) led by Prof. John Muoma.  The sensitization workshop is part of the partnership that will cement MMUST and Konza Technopolis.

Masinde Muliro University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo has taken the lead in advocating for research and fund raising through capacity building of MMUST’s researchers. Accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance, Prof. John Kuria Thuo and Prof. John Muoma (Representing DVC PRI), Prof. Shibairo led a Research Writing Workshop held on 19th May 2022.

MMUST’S VICE CHANCELLOR PROF. SOLOMON SHIBAIRO ATTENDS THE 19TH EDITION OF THE AFRICITIES SUMMIT IN KISUMU CITY

The Vice Chancellor, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Prof. Solomon Shibairo on 18th May 2022, attended the 9th edition of the Africities Summit in Kisumu city. The Summit which was officially opened by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday 17th May 2022, will go on until Saturday 21st May 2022.

This year’s summit, themed “The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the Implementation of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063”, drew participants ranging from researchers, academicians, economic actors, policy experts, civil society, financial institutions and Higher learning institutions. A majority of speakers who spoke during the opening of the Summit called upon participants to be actively involved in the development of small cities in order to improve the lives of Africans.

 Prof. Shibairo visited different exhibition tents including the MMUST tent, which is showcasing a variety of products from the University. Other MMUST staff present were Prof. Asenath Sigot, Prof. Vincent Omollo, Prof. John Muoma, Prof. Lilechi Baraza,  Mr. James Muriithi and Ms. Irene Aluku.

MMUST’S WEBUYE CAMPUS HOLDS ITS FIRST EVER ANNUAL CAREER FAIR TO SENSITIZE COMMUNITIES REGARDING THEIR PROGRAMS

Masinde Muliro University of Science of Technology’s Webuye Campus, on Tuesday, 17th May 2022, held its first ever annual career fair to sensitize communities about the programs they offer in the institution. The event was organized by MMUST main campus in partnership with Matili Technical Institute and Kitale National Polytechnic. The event attracted a number of form four leavers and community members who showed interest in the programs and services of the University.

MMUST’S SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND BUILT ENVIRONMENT COMMENCES AN 8-WEEK WORKSHOP SERIES TO STRENGTHEN STUDENTS' PRACTICAL SKILLS.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s School of Engineering and Built Environment (SEBE), is undertaking an eight (8) week intensive practical workshop series for its second year students in a bid to strengthen their practical skills. The workshop, which began on 9th May, 2022, was organized by the Dean SEBE, Prof. Bernadette Sabuni. This has been made possible through the various facilities including the Civil engineering department laboratories, Electrical as well as the Mechanical engineering laboratories.

MMUST'S RUGBY TEAM LAUNCHES NEW KIT READY TO FACE THE NEXT SEVENS SEASON SET TO KICK OFF NEXT WEEKEND

MMUST'S Rugby Team on 12th May, 2022, launched a new kit bought for them by the University as they prepare to face the next Sevens season which is set to start next weekend. The event was organized by the team's Head Coach, Dr. Ochieng Ahaya and the Assistant Coach, Mr. John Asila.

During the launching of the new kit, Dr. Ochieng acknowledged that MMUST's team is one of the best nationally, noting that the team beat old teams like Impala Saracens RFC and Nondescripts RFC in the 2021/ 2022 Kenya Cup Season.

MMUST HOSTS UNIVERSITY OF RWANDA BIOLOGY EDUCATION SPECIALIST COURTESY OF WORLD BANK FUNDED PROJECT

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has hosted a PhD student from the University of Rwanda (UR), courtesy of UR-College of Education’s World Bank funded African Centre of Excellence for Innovative Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Science (ACEITLMS). The student, Ms. Manishimwe Henriette, who is a specialist in Biology Education, is in the University for a two-week visit.  The visit began on 2nd and will stretch to 16th May, 2022. Ms. Manishimwe was received by MMUST’s Professor of Aquatic Ecology, Prof. William Shivoga, Director of International Relations and Academic Linkages (DIAL), Dr. Catherine Aurah, Dr. Humphrey Agevi and the Chairperson, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Philip Ogutu.

MMUST HOSTS ITS FIRST EVER VICE CHANCELLOR’S MEDIA BREAKFAST(VMB) IN A BID TO ESTABLISH GOOD WORKING RELATIONS WITH MAINSTREAM MEDIA

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo yesterday, 5th May, 2022 hosted the first ever media engagement forum with members of the fourth estate in a bid to establish good working relations. The forum dubbed ‘Vice Chancellor’s Media Breakfast (VMB)’ brought together bilateral discussions with media professionals from the Standard, Nation, Royal Media Services, 103.9-MMUST FM, and West TV.
