We are delighted to inform you that today, Friday 22nd July, 2022, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo and Prof. Winnie Muchera of Ball State University visited Shivembe Primary School in Shamakhokho Ward, Tiriki East as part of a joint community engagement initiative.  They were accompanied by the Director, International and Academic Linkages (DIAL), Dr. Catherine Aura.

African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) - MMUST Chapter Empower Female in Students Kakamega County Through Sanitary Pads Donation

African Women in Science and Engineering (AWSE) - MMUST Chapter is empowering female students in Kakamega County through sanitary pads donations.  This is part of the AWSE- MMUST Chapter Sanitary Pads Campaign in Kakamega County which began yesterday, Wednesday 20th July 2022. The AWSE, MMUST Chapter team donated sanitary pads at Lirhanda Girls High School, Bishop Sulumeti Girls, Shieywe Secondary School, and Makunga Secondary School. This campaign is to ensure that female students do not miss their classes due to their menstrual cycle and that they are motivated to pursue STEM subjects.

MMUST’s Agricultural Research Project Gets Global Recognition for Strengthening Food Security

The Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) agricultural research project on mushrooms has received global recognition for strengthening food security. This was evident during the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Services and West Media Limited courtesy call to the MMUST’s Professor of Nutritional Sciences, Prof. Asenath Sigot. The event which was held on 18th July, 2022, is geared towards assessing the mushroom farming project in the University. The team visited Kakamega County to interview farmers and identified mushroom farming as one of the key emerging crops, an enterprise through which they could collaborate with MMUST.

MMUST STEM Scholars Enrich Teacher Capacity for Improved Performance in Science and Mathematics in Vihiga and Kakamega Counties

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) scholars in the field of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), conducted a one-day training workshop to equip and enrich teacher capacity for improved performance in Science and Mathematics in Kakamega and Vihiga Counties.

The event organized by Dr. Amuyunzu Mang'are, brought together teachers of Science and Mathematics from more than ten schools and was held on Saturday, 16th July 2022 at Friends Girls High School-Igunga. This training was necessitated by the worrying trend of underperformance in the subjects and low uptake of students taking science programs in Universities.

MMUST’s Cordial Partnership With the County Government of Kakamega Likely to Lead to Development of a Child Care Centre in the County

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) cordial partnership with the County Government of Kakamega is likely to lead to the development of a Child Care Centre in the County. This was revealed during a consultative meeting spearheaded by the School of Education (SEDU) on13th July, 2022 together with the Ag. Kakamega County Executive Committee Member for Education Science and Technology, Dr. George Lutomia.

The meeting was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Planning Research and Innovation (PRI), Prof. Charles Mutai, who applauded the MMUST researchers for coming up with the noble idea of developing a childcare centre that would boost inclusive upbringing of children in the County.

Prof. Josephine Ngaira of MMUST Leads Humanitarian Intervention Outreach for People With Disability in Manda- Shivanga Ward, Kakamega County

On 15th July, 2022, Prof. Josephine Ngaira of MMUST led a technical team from the School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (SDMHA) to conduct a humanitarian Intervention Outreach for People Living with Disability (PLWD) in Manda-Shivanga Ward, Kakamega County. The event, which took place at Tombo Community Dispensary, was organized by Prof. Josephine Ngaira together with the Coordinator, outreaches in the School, Dr. Ferdinand Nabiswa. Dr. Nabiswa is also the Coordinator, Kenya Red Cross, Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia Counties. This initiative attracted key players including medical officers from the University clinic, experts from the Department of Health Promotion and Sports Science as well as a group of SDMHA students currently on attachment at the Kenya Red Cross, Kakamega branch.

MMUST Shines at the Nation Media Group Higher Education Fair and Skills Expo

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) is exhibiting at this year’s NMG Higher Education Fair and Skills Expo at Kisumu School in Kisumu County. The education Fair was organized by the Nation Media Group in conjunction with the Commission for University Education (CUE) and Technical and Vocational Education Training Authority (TVETA).
